The Largest Charter and Fractional Private Jet Operators in 2024

In the North American market, the top 15 charter and fractional jet operators accounted for 71% of all hours in 2024. The chart below, from WINGX, shows the hours for each of these top 15, together with the number of jets in their fleets. The top 5 operators have been growing their market share over the last 6 years.

Fractional provider NetJets is the largest private jet operator, with its fleet of 687 North American fractional jets flying 575,848 total hours in 2024. This is an average of 838 hours per plane, so NetJets is working their planes very hard. These total hours represent 36% of the overall charter and fractional market. WINGX says NetJets saw its total hours grow 11% in 2024 compared to 2023. Like other fractional opeartors, NetJets has been growing its fleet over the last few years, and has placed orders for thousands of new aircraft.

In second place is another fractional operator, Flexjet, whose fleet of 304 jets flew 230,584 hours in 2024, representing 14% of the market. This represents an average of 759 annual hours per plane. WINGX says Flexjet grew its hours 17% in 2024, largely as it continued to add aircraft to its fractional fleet. Some of the planes in this group will be FXSelect aircraft, which were formerly serving Flexjet fractional customers, but are now used by sister company FXAIR.

flyExclusive had the third highest hours at 64,769, which was 18% higher than in 2023, and represented about 4% of the private jet charter and fractional market. flyExclusive has been rationalizing its fleet over the last year, and is also adding more fractional aircraft to its largely charter focused fleet.

VistaAmerica came in fourth on the WINGX list with 59,222 hours across its fleet of 95 jets. Sister company VistaJet Ltd flew 18,895 hours on its fleet of 64 aircraft, putting it ninth on the list of largest operators.

Wheels Up, at fifth on the list, saw its 116 jets fly 39,374 hours in 2024. At the end of 2024 it announced a fleet modernization program with plans to transition from four different types of jet aircraft to just two: the Phenom 300 Series and Challenger 300 Series. And a goal to complete this transition within three years.

Calgary based AirSprint, at number six, flew 33,490 hours across the 45 jets in its fleet. The average of 744 hours per aircraft is the third highest after fellow fractional operators NetJets and Flexjet.

The table and chart below shows the percentage market share for the top 5 jet charter and fractional operators over the last 6 years. This really make it clear how much the other fractional and charter operators are losing market share – down 11.9% from 2019 through 2024 (see the red square in the table below).

Note these figures are just for jet charter and fractional operators in North America. So do not include any numbers for turboprops, and do not include any other types of operators, such as aircraft management companies or corporate flight departments. Some of the companies on this list also have significant fleets of turboprops, for instance Wheels Up has a large fleet of King Airs and PlaneSense operates over 40 Pilatus PC-12s, but these are not included in the data and chart above.
