World Cup Drives Business Jet Demand

Flight data from WINGX shows a boost to business jet traffic during the opening days of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Across the 16 host cities, for the period 11th – 22nd June, WINGX looked at flight numbers on the day before, day of, and day after each match, and compared them to a typical day. The largest surges were in smaller markets, rather than major hubs. Seattle roughly doubled its normal daily activity for the USA v Australia match on 19 June, while Mexico City saw activity run about 1.7x for the tournament-opening game at Estadio Azteca. The surges are shown in the two charts below from WINGX.

Nick Koscinski, WINGX Analyst, said, “As expected, the World Cup is bringing in a surge of bizjet traffic to nearby airports of the host cities. Although, the smaller markets are seeing a much more sizeable surge in traffic, whereas large metros like New York or LA see the extra jets just blend into an already busy month. With the knockout rounds still to come, we expect to start to see bigger spikes to follow, with the final match delivering the largest surge of them all.”

Private aviation providers are certainly seeing a surge in demand around the tournament. Alan Walsh at Sentient Jet says they already have hundreds of flights booked for the games, with many multi-leg trips. He’s expecting even more demand as the tournament moves into the knockout stages.

North America Continues Growth

Overall, the North American market is now up 5.0% for the year through 21st June, and within that the US is up 5.2%.

Some of the largest private jet operators continue to grow, often by significantly more than the market. For instance, in the year-to-date, amongst the top four, NetJets departures are up 13.9%, Flexjet is up 11.2%, flyExclusive is up 6.0%, and Executive Jet Management is up 9.0%, which suggests they are further taking market share.
