Jet Linx Launches Owner Aircraft Exchange to Address Aircraft Downtime

For owners of private aircraft, some downtime is an unavoidable reality — and historically, an expensive one. Whether a scheduled inspection or an unexpected Aircraft on Ground (AOG) event, any period during which an aircraft is unavailable can leave an owner paying retail charter rates for a replacement, sometimes tens of thousands of dollars per day.

Jet Linx Aviation has introduced a structured solution to this problem. The company's new Owner Aircraft Exchange, launching May 1, 2026, provides managed-fleet owners with access to supplemental aircraft during maintenance periods at rates far below those typically charged in the open charter market.

What the Program Offers

The Owner Aircraft Exchange operates on a reciprocal model within the Jet Linx managed fleet. Participating aircraft owners commit to making at least 10 hours of availability on their own aircraft annually, in exchange for access to an equivalent number of supplemental flight hours on other aircraft in the program when their jet is out of service.

Those supplemental hours are priced at the aircraft's Direct Operating Cost (DOC) — essentially the variable cost of operating the aircraft — rather than the retail charter rates that typically apply when sourcing a replacement through the open market. Importantly, the 10 hours available to managed fleet owners aren't required to be used or paid for; they are available on a pay-as-you-go basis if and when needed.

Some example hourly rates would be $3,000 per hour for a midsize jet and $3,800 per hour of a super midsize jet.

The program covers both scheduled maintenance events, such as routine inspections and engine overhauls, and unscheduled AOG situations.

The Closed-Network Model

A key structural feature of the Owner Aircraft Exchange is that it operates entirely within the Jet Linx ecosystem. The company currently manages over 100 aircraft across 22 base locations throughout the United States, and the program draws exclusively from that fleet.

This closed-network approach has two practical implications. First, it allows Jet Linx to maintain its existing safety standards — the company holds ARGUS Platinum Elite, ISBAO Stage 3 and WYVERN Wingman PRO safety ratings — without introducing third-party operators or aircraft of unknown provenance into the equation. Second, it gives the program sufficient scale to offer meaningful aircraft availability across a range of cabin classes and geographies.

By contrast, standard industry aircraft management agreements typically require owners to source replacement aircraft through third-party charter providers at full retail rates. For an owner with a heavy jet undergoing a multi-week engine overhaul, those costs can accumulate quickly and erode the financial case for aircraft ownership.

Jamie Walker, Executive Chairman at Jet Linx, said, "Our new Owner Aircraft Exchange is the simplest, most cost-effective, supplemental aircraft program in the industry to support an aircraft owner’s backup needs for when they’re dealing with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events. It’s made possible by having both a local and national fleet of managed aircraft, spread across the U.S., where we can optimize availability and execute the program with the same service guarantees of our Jet Card Membership program.”

Enrollment and Availability

The 2026 enrollment period for the Owner Aircraft Exchange runs throughout April, ahead of the May 1 program launch. The program is open to Jet Linx managed fleet owners nationwide.

About Jet Linx

Founded in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1999, Jet Linx has grown into one of the larger private aviation operators in the United States, offering aircraft management and jet card membership through a local service model built around its 22 bases. The company operates under FAA Part 135 certification and serves clients traveling to destinations across more than 180 countries.

Its fleet spans light to heavy jets, and the approach has centered on providing a personalized ownership experience — including dedicated local teams at each base.

"The true ultimate benefit of owning a private jet is to keep moving on your schedule," noted Jamie Walker, "The last thing an aircraft owner should worry about is how they will get to their next destination when their aircraft has an unscheduled, or scheduled, maintenance event.”
