Reviews
We had a great stay in Anguilla, once we arrived! The tropical storm moving through the area stranded us in San Juan for an impromptu overnight stay. Once our evening flight to Anguilla was cancelled, I scrambled to rebook with American, and found that a St. Martin flight would get us there earlier in the day, as there was no availability until the next evening for Anguilla. Delphine arranged a private boat transfer on the "Gotch Again" from St. Martin the captain met us at the airport and we all walked across the street to the awaiting boat, and were zipped across to Anguilla.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone having trouble with airlines in coordinating flights to get to the island. Customs at the ferry port was very quick, especially since we were the only ones entering at that moment, and we were met by Wendell to take us to the residence, which is only a short distance away.
Each of the LUSSO homes has two master suites on the main floor, each with outside entrances, as none of the bedrooms are directly connected to the main section of the home. The main building is a very open space with the living, kitchen, dining & media rooms. (Only the bedrooms and media room are air conditioned.) Below the east master are two additional bedrooms, each with their own bath, but with a connecting louver door (that does lock) between the bedrooms. This would be an ideal situation if you have young children, but possibly not with many adult couples traveling together. Indigo Cove (the six bedroom home) has two additional bedrooms below the west master, each with two twin beds and private baths. Again, there is a locking door between the two rooms. Most of the rooms have a mini-refrigerator in them, which was nice for us since the main refrigerator was having problems.
The private beach at the home is quite small, however, and has a very rough, coral section, bring water shoes, if you plan to use it. Snorkeling is good off of that area, but better at Shoal Bay. If you make the drive, follow signs to “Malakh Day Spa” or “Gwen’s Reggae Grill” after you make the turn off of the main road. (Note: you will want a SUV type of car, as the secondary roads are quite rough) Eat at Gwen’s and enjoy the beach while you are there. Plan for a massage, beachside at Malakh, and request Jr’s Glassbottom Boat to take you out to the re reef for some fabulous snorkeling! Golf at Tenemos was very good, beautiful course in excellent condition!! There is a restaurant onsite, but it closed for the season on our last day.
Restaurants on the island are plentiful, and all offer various cuisine, one of our favorites was Blanchards. The sunset there is absolutely breathtaking, and the “Caribbean sampler” was outstanding! Delphine arranged for Shawn (from Tasty’s) to come to the house and cook for us one evening. The meal was completely customized for our group (we had one that is allergic to shellfish and nuts). All of us thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island! Delphine was great in staying in contact with us, and offering suggestions, and the housekeepers were very friendly and helpful, as well. One suggestion is to use the insect spray, as the mosquitos and possibly “no-o-see-ums” were horrible, even in the main portion of the home. I had many bites near my ankles, as a result. (And, no, it wasn’t on beach days) We spent many days just hanging out at the pool enjoying the amazing ocean view, island life, at its finest!
